Lobster...and alot of wine....

So, I said I would give a description of the lobster dinner for Mr. Big White Hat...

Have you ever had lobster - Italian style?

It's lobster, cooked in a tomato sauce, slow simmered and spiced with red and black pepper. Oh yeah babe... good stuff. (Emeril!!!). Once you have had it this way, it's very difficult to go back to the steamed style.

My mom and dad were in from out of state, my aunt and uncle were joining us for dinner...and my cousin stopped in for a little nightcap. It was a great day - and my 6th wedding anniversary, by the way!

I'm sorry to see my parents leave - I would love to have Sunday dinners at my house every week...

Yum!!! That sounds so good! I used to work for Wolfgang Puck out here, and we had a lobster with ginger-curry sauce and deep-fried spinach. You got the real thang out there in Lobster Country, though. Happy Anniversary! Hope you had a nice time with your family.

I'm probably the only person in the world who doesn't like lobster, so I'll just say HOW 'BOUT THAT PAT/FALCON GAME?

Oh yeah, happy anniversary too (blush) - sorry I forgot to say that earlier. I have a stupid cold so my brain's on delay :/ ...

Thanks for the vicarious seafood.

This summer when I was in New England, I visited many fine dining establishments. Being a Texan abroad, I wished to eat nothing but seafood. The crown jewel of fine dining in the Boston Area is the Gloucester House. Let me tell you why I say so.

We made a trip from Woburn (pronounced woobin) to Gloucester (pronounced glosstah). We pulled into a state park. After climbing a large rock and taking in the scenery we all became very hungry. Two Texans and three Oregonians with expense accounts were in deep need of nourishment. We drove around. I asked the Maurice to stop the car and I got out walked out on a pier and asked one of the local fishermen where to get the best food. He surmised from my boots and accent that I must be a Texan, “Yah ah long way f’om home. Go eat at the Gloucester House and have Lobstah.” How could we help but follow such sage advice?

The other gentlemen ordered lazy man’s lobster. This proved to be a disappointment for them. It was a small lobster casserole. I asked for the seafood stuffed lobster. My comrades looked on with envious amazement. They knew they had all been out whataburgered.

This dish is amazing. Imagine a lobster on its back. It has been split up the middle and stuffed with fried bread crumbs, shrimp and the most tender scallops on Earth. Every single bite made the gods envy me as they only have ambrosia. I even ate the antennae as a joke (they are good with tobasco). My fine Yankee waitress looked on in amazement as I cleaned all that was edible from that shell with extreme efficiency.

The next time I eat Tex-Mex with a Yankee and, giggle at his delightful trip to jalapeƱo heaven, I will enjoy it all that much more having shared the experience.

Viva New England!

Hey all - Thanks for the anniversary wishes! And yes - having lobster this way sounds bizarre, but once you taste it - traditional lobster is almost boring. :) We usually steam lobsters in the summer, and once fall hits - it's all about the red sauce! :)

Big White Hat - it's funny because being from NE, it's relatively easy to get seafood anywhere, so even though I'm a north shore girl, I've only probably had lobster in Glous-tah (wink) once in my life. It's funny because I LOVED LOVED LOVED the food in Texas. The best steak and Mexican I've ever had. I'm a total spice fiend, and I'm all about red meat. So Texas was by far my favorite culinary place, short of New Orleans - which I never had the opportunity to go to. What do you do for a living that had you in Woburn, of all places???

GO PATRIOTS!!!!!!!!
Whew. That one was a scary one yesterday, but we pulled it off. It seems like the only one we're waiting for to get hurt at this point is Brady. I was sure he was going to get injured yesterday. What else can happen to this team?!

There aren't any hotels in Wilmington. The hotels were in Woburn.

There is a company called GSI Lumonics in Wilmington. I was there learning all of the ins and outs of a machine. I work for Texas Instruments. My job description would bore you. Suffice it to say I was playing with LASERs.

Yes Texas has great beef and Tex-Mex. Dallas is home to some of the country's best Steak Houses but I'm curious about the Tex-Mex. There isn't a lot of good stuff in Dallas compared to the rest of the state. Where did you eat?

About Football: The pats did have a close one. Get those boys healthy.
As for us in Dallas, Philly didn’t show up. It looks like McNabb could be done for the season. He looked terrible. I hope your guys put Plummer in the hospital. I hope mine do the same to Manning and Shockey.

I'm really glad that you had a good time with your parents - that stuck out to me more than anything in this post, remembering the feelings you spoke of earlier. I know they must adore you...

And a very happy anniversary to you and your hubby!

Big White Hat: Beacon Hill Wine & Spirits

Glitter: I think we live pretty close to each other - if there's ever anything you want, we deliver! Or if you just want a recommendation or something - don't hesitate.

That goes for everyone - looking for a recommendation on what to drink with certain foods, or give as a gift - let me know!

Is is on Beacon Hill close walk from Boston Commons?

Rebecca said...

Yes it is! The Common is at the end of the street... Do you ever get to the Hill when you travel?

bigwhitehat said...

I have been in your store.

Rebecca said...

Are you sure??? There's 4 wine shops on our street....we're not the closest to the common - that would be Delucas. Did you go into one that was street level, or downstairs? We're on the corner of Charles and Mt. Vernon Streets, about 2 blocks or so from the Common.

bigwhitehat said...

I don't remember. This was in July. Were you wearing brown and walking a dog?

Rebecca said...

Nope. You might have had me confused with Giselle Bunchen (sp), Leonardo DiCaprio's girlfriend, who WAS in town in July and walking her dog in front of the store. :) Kidding, I don't look anything like her. But...no - I'm never at the store. Hardly ever. All the stuff for the store, I do remotely. My husband works there daily - I pop in from time to time though.

I work at the Air Force Base and I'm a designer/app developer/IT geek. :) I do have a dog - but she's never been to the store.

bigwhitehat said...

I think I know which one it is. The rent on that place must be astronomical. We saw a very remarkable looking woman at that store. It was up the road a bit. It was on the other side of the Common from cheers on Beacon Hill.

Rebecca said...

Yes - if you're standing on Charles with Cheers on your right - we're up the street on the left, so the Common would be behind you. There's definitely lots of "eye candy" on Charles Street. Between the young college girls and the wealthy women who invest in plastic surgery, it's quite fun for a guy to be on the Hill I think. Rent is definitely high; but we've got the best corner in the neighborhood so it's well worth it. :)

That is not it. The one we visited was not on the corner. The lady in question was beautiful. If she had work done, she should marry the doctor. She looked to be in her mid thirties.
