Heard station surfing this morning....

On Oldies 103.3 (which, by the way - now it's quite sad that the songs they play are "oldies". This used to be the 50's and 60's station, the real oldies! Not late 70's and 80's!! But I digress...) "Love isn't always on time" - Toto

On Kiss 108 - "Mr Know it All". (Which I love, by the way....it sounds very reminiscent of her third album, stylistically. Must buy this cd...)

On Country KLB 102.5 - "Take another little piece of my heart" - Faith Hill. ( Not my favorite version of this song, truth be told. I'm a Janis kinda gal...)

On Kiss 108 again - "Someone like you". (Needs no explanation. After hearing it, I had to turn to my CD player to play it not once, but twice afterwards.)

And of course, in between it all - WEEI sports talk which truthfully, I don't remember what they were discussing - I think it was a very confused phone caller.

Sorry I'm not home right now I'm walking into spiderwebs....

I know, I know - it's been a long time since I've posted.
But it's summer, and I've been busy.

So here's a little catch up on what's been roaming around this girl's thoughts.

1. Namaste. I'm beyond excited that my local yoga studio has added more classes so I can take yoga Monday through Friday now. I'm starting on Monday - and I have to say, I've taken this whole summer vacation thing really seriously - though not with doing anything per se. I've been eating like there's no tomorrow and doing zero in the exercise aspect. No yoga, no running, nada. I can't take it after work so it has to be in the morning and now that there's classes 5 days a week - it allows for me to have no excuse if I miss a class -- I won't have to wait three days before the next one comes around. I've got to get into form because at the end of August is the Annual 108 Suns for the Jimmy Fund that I participate in each year and I want to be sure that I'm rip roaring and ready to go....

2. I'm trying something new: Natural Nails. So, I've had acrylic nails for years now. But after being so frustrated because the nail tech I go to makes them look good - they break constantly. Constantly. And that shouldn't really be happening. So, I took them off and now I'm trying to grow my own nails. It sure feels good, but I'm not loving the look truthfully. I guess in a few weeks I can do a French Manicure once again.

3. Are you ready for some football? So, I'm psyched that the lockout is over. But truthfully, given the things they agreed on - it almost seems like this was all just a big waste of time. Really picky une things and not a whole heck of a lot changed. Wasted time....

4. Nothing new on the house front. So frustrating. We've raised our price point but there's nothing available where we live right now. And there are some beautiful homes in other communities but we're not looking at them actively right now because we don't want the kids to change school systems after the school year starts. If nothing comes up this season, we'll wait until Spring. Such a bummer though.... such a bummer.

Weekend wrapup...

1. Dear Martinelli '06 Bella Vigna Pinot Noir: Help me feel better about the very real possibility of having to move my kids to another town. Okay, so truthfully - while the wine is rocking delicious (and a bit sweeter than I'd normally prefer when it comes to a Pinot Noir, but I digress...) - it's actually making me ponder what my hang up really is. I mean, so long as I'm moving my kids to an equally good or better school system (in this case, it would be better and I love, love, love my school current school system), what is my issue? I mean, the kids are all friends online with XBOX Live, so staying in touch is certainly not a big deal. And it's not so far away that friends can't come and visit on weekends....it's not like when I was a kid. When you moved - it was the end of the world. And fortunately, it's not as if my children lack in social skills so as that they can't easily make friends. So really, why am I feeling as if my nails are being torn from my fingers when I think of moving out my current zip code? There is a house two towns over that looks spectacular on line - everything we're looking for in a house, plus it's a great school system - and so I think I really need to just get a grip. The kids aren't overly averse to the idea, so why the heck am I having such difficulty?

2. It's Father's Day weekend! And I have yet to send a gift to my Father. Oops.... Must get on that promptly.

3. It's Father's Day weekend....and the kids and I went and did our traditional gift of a photographic Tshirt. This will be G's 11th Tshirt, and it's amazing to see how the kids change each year. I swear, my kids will do this when they're in their 20s if I have my way! And it will be even more fun when they get older because when they have children, it will be "Grandfather" shrits (though truly, we won't be old enough to be grandparents, just sayin'...) with the kids on them. I love having traditions, they're so important to me - and so I hope that someday my kids appreciate the traditions that we have and continue them on in their own family. Even if it's something as small as a picture on a Tshirt....

4. And finally.... no matter what is going on in life, no matter whether the sun is shining outside or it's raining -- enjoy the ones you surround yourself with. Life is too short to be grumpy or angry. Let it go, and just love the life you have. Nothing lasts forever, and even if you're in a bad spot right now - it's only going to be temporary. Good times, bad times -- nothing stays static forever. So accept the here and now - and look toward the future. Embrace your health, and your wealth of personal value. And live life as loudly as you can! Hug and kiss the ones who mean the most to you....and have fun with whatever you do.

So much to say -- so little time!

Or rather, no patience to take the time to say it all. That might be a more accurate statement.

1. We have a home inspection on Monday.
So very exciting for the new house to be moving forward. I think the only real obstacle - and truly, not an obstacle, I don't think - is the appraisal. It's just that houses in this particular price range are a bit fewer and further between so it may be a challenge for pulling comps; but the house is definitely worth the price, comps aside - so I'm pretty hopeful that it won't be too much of an issue. And we will cross that road when we get to it....

2. I almost feel badly for Casey Anthony. Almost...but not quite. The defense is laughable, and truly - the evidence is mounting against her rather strongly. I don't see how she's going to get anything but murder in the 1st. I sort of get irritated when I see talk host types (such as Dr. Drew -- who, by the way is a sex/drug addict therapist -- does that mean we want to see him on late night CNN/Fox? This girl thinks not..,but I digress.) say that our fascination with this case is the "soap opera drama' that goes with it.

Listen up my friend - that's not the attraction or fascination with this case. It's the sheer disbelief and horror that a beautiful young girl could be killed and thrown away like trash by her mother, who -- as she is attractive, makes it that much more difficult for society to believe she would do that because, of course - attractive people do no wrong, right? It's complete horror and we don't want to believe it -and we're disgusted by the details but we can't stop watching because our hearts are broken by it. The atrocity of the crime and the callousness of the mother is just something that seems inhuman. We don't really want to watch it - but yet we are riveted at the same time. And thank God for that - otherwise little Caylee would be a nameless, faceless victim of child abuse. It's not soap opera, or drama - it's the humanity in us that makes us watch and continue to watch - and hope and pray that Casey Anthony gets the punishment that she deserves.

3. Feeling chunky. Okay, so maybe that's a bit exaggerated. It's only 7lbs but wow - I am feeling them. I'm probably the least in shape I've been in 6 years and I just can't get myself motivated to take the time to get back to running. I've had no opportunity to practice yoga - which I sorely miss, but I should be able to at least squeeze a run in! I am getting back into the groove on Monday, so this is my last week of indulgence. Starting Monday, it's back to running and shedding some of this extra blah....

4. And finally - a little something to make you laugh.
Because haven't we all known a Cooper, at some point? Or maybe - a dumbass??

Hi, my name is Rebecca.....

....and I'm completely, entirely and wholeheartedly addicted to my Shark steam floor cleaner.

Stewie: ... "what do you say to that broccoli ... stop mocking me ..."

So, anyone else really really craving salt?
Last night, I ate a whole bowl of home made guacamole by myself.
As if I never saw food before.

Tonight -- I got the kids subs for dinner as a treat.
I couldn't help but to eat all the hot peppers that my son didn't want to eat.
I posted previously about it -- something about Italian subs, is like crack. I can't resist it.
(Just to clarify, no - I have never tried crack, but if it calls to you like an Italian sub calls to me - oh my, I feel your pain.)

Speaking of calling to me... there is this fabulous little consignment shop that opened up across the street from the store a few weeks ago. This store is going to be a downfall for me, I think. I have never shopped at a consignnment store; actually, this is not entirely true. When I was little, my Mom used to take me to this consignment store where I grew up - and I would pick out jeans there (think Jordache, Calvin Klein) because my parents couldn't afford to buy me them from the department stores. I was so incredibly skinny that even back then, they didn't fit me -- I always ended up in spandex pants (otherwise known today as yoga pants.) I had no hips when I was little - I was barely a size 0. I had to wear boys jeans for the most part. After having children, well...those womanly curves made their appearance! But I digress...

So today, I bought a gorgeous Michael Kors gold trenchcoat - it's stunning. (Trust me, the photos on the link do it no justice.) I wanted it for a wedding I attended last Sunday, but I told myself if it was there this week again - I'd buy it. And there it was, calling my name... for under $50. I don't have a dress coat that isn't for winter - so it wasn't an incredibly frivolous buy. (yes, I think angels might have sung a bit as I walked out of the store. Just sayin'...)

Anyway, it's Friday - and I have a brand new crush on a Chardonnay. It's Curley Reserve, Oak Knoll Napa Chardonnay, and oh my.... it's a pretty one. Clearly with a high alcohol content because just a glass and this girl is a little tipsy. Not an inexpensive Chardonnay either I might add, but definitely the perfect choice to wrap this week up.

It's Mother's Day weekend....a fabulous and yet, just a little painful time for this girl. Mother's Day this year is the one year anniversary of my mother's passing. I'm running a 3.5 mile race that day - and I think that's a great way to celebrate the day. I miss my mother more than anyone could ever know...but I try not to dwell on that. Just focus on the happiness of the present.

And a little more Chardonnay....

To cook - or not too cook. That is the question...

You know what's really funny?

I have a store that's loaded with gourmet goodies....and yet I never can decide what to make for dinner.

It's funny, when I worked in an office I'd know by mid-day what my dinner would be and I'd have it all planned out. But now....not so much.

It's difficult too because G is pretty fussy; he never used to be, but...he has a sensitive stomach and so that makes it challenging at times. So like tonight for an example - I could make a fajita dinner with salad for us, but he won't eat it. I suggested wild boar....no. He is not a big steak tip person, and doesn't love lemon pepper chicken either - and I have these fabulous lemon pepper chicken breasts here at the store. He doesn't love pasta.... and I'm not about to make three different meals tonight, so we must all agree on one.

See my dilemma?

I'd be good with a lovely old fashioned meat loaf...but I don't know if that's going to rock his world today either.

So part of me thinks it should be a take out kind of night....we shall see how it all pans out.

These are a few of my favorite things....

Iced cold pineapple. Lavendar & vanilla. Freshly cut cilantro. A very aged Gouda. Sugared plum candles. Soft fuzzy pajamas. Conversation with a good friend. A good Sonoma Chardonnay. Hearing my children's laughter. Smoked salmon and cream cheese. The cool night air with a hint of smoke. The soft tickle of facial hair. Warm socks fresh from the dryer. A house full of love and laughter.

Lyrically speaking....

When in the springtime of the year
When the trees are crowned with leaves
When the ash and oak, and the birch and yew
Are dressed in ribbons fair

When owls call the breathless moon
In the blue veil of the night
The shadows of the trees appear
Amidst the lantern light

We've been rambling all the night
And some time of this day
Now returning back again
we bring a garland gay

Who will go down to those shady groves
And summon the shadows there
And tie a ribbon on those sheltering arms
In the springtime of the year

The songs of birds seem to fill the wood
That when the fiddler plays
All their voices can be heard
Long past their woodland days

And so they linked their hands and danced
Round in circles and in rows
And so the journey of the night descends
When all the shades are gone

"A garland gay we bring you here
And at your door we stand
It is a sprout well budded out
The work of Our Lord's hand"

Thoughts for Today....

1. Buffalo is delicious. I've never had it before, and I sell it. So, I try to cook with what I sell because if I love it- it makes it that much easier for me to convince someone else to try it. I sell game meat that is free range and organic from a very reputable company - and I brought it in because so many of my customers are chefs and mention that they make game meals; or they are just customers who have randomly mentioned that they eat game meat - and so I thought it would be a good fit. Turns out that it is, it sells very well. But I hadn't personally tried it all, and tonight I did. I grilled the steaks with sea salt, black pepper & garlic, drizzled with truffle balsamic reduction paired with a simple salad. It smelled fantastic but what surprised me the most was that it is reminiscent of lamb. I knew it would be gamey, and while I don't know what I was expecting, but I wasn't expecting that exactly.

2. While I know it's not exactly panic time....the Sox desperately need a win. If for nothing else but a change in psyche for them. And it's far too soon in the season to be so frustrated while watching them. While I know Jason is our backup catcher, truthfully Saltalamacchia doesn't look all that comfortable behind the plate - probably all the more reason why he needs to be there. At the same time, I felt so much better seeing Jason come in for last night's game and catching tonight as well. Now if Dice K doesn't screw it up, maybe we can get a win in the column.

3. No news on the house front... which is frustrating. We have an open house this weekend and someone requested information this week that one typically doesn't request unless they're contemplating putting an offer in. Trying not to care.....

4. Patience -- is it always a virtue?
I try daily to keep my cool and patience when my kids push buttons; I try to remind myself that it is their job to test their boundaries with us on a regular basis. But sometimes I lose my temper and I feel so disappointed. It happens, and that's part of being a parent; but I hate bringing it to their level and yelling...really yelling. I'm the parent, right!? I shouldn't have to get that way! At the same time, sometimes it puts it all in perspective for them when I really raise my voice and get LOUD. I explained to my Princess Petunia (who was the culprit this evening) that no matter how much she meltsdown, or how angry she gets - that her parents are always her safe place and love her no matter what. And while it makes me feel good that she knows that, (and the hug after all the arguing solidifies that confidence) and my lack of patience was something she needed at that moment to put things in perspective - I still wish I didn't have to do that.

Parenting is a tough, tough job. And it's one that helps us continue to grow as adults because we're always learning from the experience. These little people are looking to us to show them what will be expected from them in life -- and the reward of them being happy, grounded and successful on a personal level -- is worth more than anything else in the world. If losing my patience on occasion is going to help them be good people in life, then I will gladly do it, many times a day if need be.

Tuesday's Thoughts....

1. Cupcake Wars. Love it. Love it. Latest television "must see". But outside of the fact of loving the show just because I love to see the flavor combinations (Lord knows, anyone who knows me knows I can't bake myself! Though I do try...) and I love seeing how beautiful the cupcakes often come out -- but it's all about the camera angles and the snarky host! It's hysterical, the camera shots always seem to show everyone snickering at the person who's being critiqued, and you know it's all shots weaved in out of context. Like, I'm sure that the competitors aren't so cut throat that they'd gloat in front of another contestant, you know what I mean? So it's really funny to see the facial expressions, and really - the host looks like he can't be any more pleased to deliver the bad news. All in all, it's just a fun show to watch for both culinary and entertainment reasons.

2. American Idol. Seriously, have I mentioned enough how much I love, love, love Jennifer Lopez? I just want to pick her up and put her in my pocket and keep her with me so when I'm feeling down she and I can have a good heart to heart and I feel better again. Love her. Is it bad to want to be her? Okay, well how about just look like her? No? Hmmm. Okay. Moving on...

2a. Steven Tyler. Okay - does he look 63? I don't think so...he looks fantastic and really he's another one I just love. He's so exuberant and pure in his admiration for talent in these kids - how can you not enjoy him? The funny thing is, that when I see him - I think of "Don't wanna miss a thing" Aerosmith. "Janie's got a Gun" Aerosmith. But today, when I heard my all time favorite Aerosmith song "Season of Wither", the visual I get is of a very different Steven Tyler. It's hard to imagine that he's that same person. He led one hell of a life ...and I think right now - he's very grateful to have survived to be where he is today.

3. Christopher Gribble. Why is he being kept alive? I'm sorry, 23 hours a day in seclusion in a maximum security prison is just not punishment enough. If NH doesn't support the death penalty for this heinous crime - then how about General Population in a maximum security prison? Come on, it's survival of the fittest....and if he isnt' fit, then.... oh well. I do however, feel badly for his parents. I don't know his family dynamic, but if they're anything relatively normal - they must be beyond heartbroken to know that their at one time beautiful baby - could do something so horribly wrong.

4. The House. Okay, so I've decided to not want this house we love so badly. Because it seems once I stop caring, things fall into place better. So while we have it under agreement - and the house they want still is available, we still don't have a buyer. So now, I don't really care if we find one... if it's meant to be, it will be -- and there's really nothing I can do to change that. It's only a house - and we have a perfectly fine house. It just would be really, really, really great to be in a neighborhood with other kids. Time will tell....and it's really just out of my control.

Things that make you go "hmmm".....

1. I got to see the house we love again. Because.... we put it under agreement today. (Yay!!)Hopefully, the house they want won't get an offer before we get a buyer. It's one of those "timing" types of sales. I am so excited...albeit, cautiously.

2. Facebook -- back off. I am beyond tired of FB asking me to make it my homepage every time I log off; I'm even more tired of it trying to keep me constantly logged in. Are you kidding me??? They're shoving themselves so far down my throat that it's not even worth going on anymore.

3. Sometimes I wonder.....don't people realize they're supposed to work when they're at work... ?

4. I love pretty things. Pretty things make me happy....don't they make you feel the same way? Well, then again - I am a girl. But still...
So, imagine my surprise when I ran across this fun website via Cafe Chatelain. I had so much fun making the following pretty room -- and if you sign up and design something - share it with me, would you?

Open Letters....

Dear Barometric Pressure: Please do whatever you have to do to settle down. I need to get rid of this mindnumbing pain in the back of my head that has plagued me for the last 36 hours. Thanks!

Dear Charlie Sheen: Not sure if you know, but the death watch is on. Glad you're having fun.... "winning", or whatever it is that you're doing.

Dear Dunkin Donuts: You continue to reinforce the reason why I switched to Starbucks. Your Cafe Latte....eh, not so good. And truly, when someone forgets to add the Splenda-- it makes me wonder what the hiring qualifications are for this job. There are three components to coffee: coffee, milk and sugar - or some variation thereof. How can you not get this straight? Clearly, a little QC needs to be done in the HR department.

All I know is...if a customer comes in and asks for a Merlot -- and I sell him a bottle of Cabernet but tell him it's a Merlot -- he's going to be pretty irritated when he tastes it. Don'tcha think?? Just sayin'....

Technology that I'm digging these days...

1. The Color Nook. Okay, while I'm most definitely a "see, touch, feel" kind of girl when it comes to shopping - I am enjoying this little gadget. It cant' replace the excitement of going to the book store, smelling the books and touching the covers - but since this girl doesn't typically have the time to make such excursions -- the Nook is working out just fine. I'm half way through Dan Brown's "The Lost Symbol" and just downloaded "90 Minutes in Heaven" which I'll be starting next. Got book recommendations? Please share! Have a Nook and want to "lend"me a book - let me know! Remember, one of my resolutions was to get back to reading and this is totally affording me the opportunity.

2. Pandora. Okay, again - I'm all about the music store (love, love, love Newbury Comics), but I'm really digging this Pandora thing that is bundled with the Nook. So I can read AND listen to music, which truthfully - is rather counterintuitive for me because it can prevent me from really becoming "lost" in the story. But still, is pretty cool. Pretty, pretty, cool. (Yes, Curb fans, that was a shoutout to the show which is "supposed" to be coming back on the air really soon....)

3. Netflix. No, I haven't joined yet - I must get my Roku box. But, WOW - just to be able to catch up on shows like Smallville and Greys - it's beyond worth it! Anyone a Netflix member? Care to share thoughts -- let me know!

What are some great gadgets that you've got that you're loving these days?

Musings for Monday....

Nothing can hit the spot like...... a good, old fasioned peanut butter and jelly or fluff sandwich. It's got to be incredibly soft bread, almost so soft that it will stick to the roof of your mouth. Few things will trigger the salivary glands quite so well as this. (And I know this because Princess Petunia was still hungry after finishing dinner, so she asked for a PB&F sandwich, and I snuck a little bit of it. I'm thinking skip my dinner and just eat that...!)

No matter how hard I try, I can't listen to the new sports station. Sometimes when WEEI is on commercial or they're talking about something that rather bores me, I flip to music. Occasionally, such as a day like today when I like hearing the post Superbowl chatter and Pre-Spring Training conversations - I'll bop on over to The Sports Hub. I swear to God, every time I do - I regret it. Listening to Toucher & Rich, I feel like my intelligence level has been brought down. Occasionally decent points are made, but more often than not I feel like I'm listening to the Bevis & Butthead of morning talk. Listen, I'm all about having fun - but I take my sports more seriously, and truth be told - these guys aren't the "experts" who's opinion I take seriously. But I try.... I try.

Dear Facebook: The answer is NO for the millionth time. NO I don't want to make you my homepage. NO I don't want you to auto-log me in. (Even though it's CONSTANTLY pre-selected every time I log in or out.) NO I don't want you to share my personal information with third party vendors. Dear God Facebook - I don't want you to take over the world - mine, or anyone else's. It's obnoxious....!

Wondering.....

How many times will I repeat the following phrase, before it actually is done: "Sit right, face forward, feet under the table - use your utensils!".

If I tell you what I mean, write you instructions AND draw you a diagram - at what point is what I say not clear. And will you ever tell me....??

Just curious....what part of "no", actually means "yes"?

Manners. Live them, love them, use them. At what point did manners not become important with EVERYONE - not just strangers.

Why there isn't a license out there for people to use computers. Seriously....

He likes me...he really, really likes me!

Or at least Facebook would like me to believe so.

If any of you are connected with the social media nightmare Facebook -- then you'll understand what I mean. So, I log on quickly this morning because I got a message that a girlfriend tagged me in an email; when I get to my home page, there's a prompt of "people you may know", or "find friends" - and guess who's on there...? It says Jason Varitek. I know, right?!?!?

So, I click on the picture for the profile and immediately realize it's not him....which isn't really all that tough to do.

But seriously - it was the weirdest thing to see on my page.

Stupid Facebook... you'd think at least they'd do something for verification of authenticity so at least the next time they suggest I know someone -- I might really want to! Not to suggest that he wouldn't want to be my friend on Facebook, of course....

Hmmph! (She says, flipping her hair....)

Right now.....

Borrowed courtesy of Dawn! If you use it - let me know!

Outside my window: Snow, snow...and more snow.

I am thinking: That my kids are suspiciously quiet at the moment....ah yes, it's video game captivation.

I am thankful for: The health of my family and the stability of our lives.

From the kitchen: I can smell the cranberry cider candle that is burning. And it smells good....

I am wearing: yoga pants & a under armour stretchy shirt.

I am creating: A path in life that hopefully will be one of example for my children.

I am going: To my girlfriend's house tonight to spend time with some of my best friends.

I am reading: Nothing. I don't have the time, and I have yet to find something that catches my interest. Make suggestions, please!!

I am hoping: that the house we're going to look at tomorrow is a good fit - and one that isn't in a rush to sell just yet. This is not the time of year to put a house on the market.

I am hearing: noises from my children...of course the quiet wouldn't last forever.

Around the house: I have lots of photographs of our family. I love, love, love candid shots in a home.

One of my favorite things: The smell of food cooking in the oven. Nothing says "home" like a delicious meal cooking.

I don't understand: Why people just can't do their job. It seems like no one ever does things right the first time....

I wish: Cancer would go away.

A few plans for the rest of the week: I have two wine tastings I'm hosting during the week - and then one at a black tie affair a week from tonight. At least that one I get to dress up for!

A picture to share... Myself & my little cousin who was my flower girl at my wedding! Hard to believe that she was 4 then - and now she's 18!
