Abcdefghjklmopqrstuvwxyz....

When I was little, I had a Sesame Street album - and on it was a song called "Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz", but it was pronounced like it was a Polish name. I'll see if I can phonetically lay it out so you can understand how Big Bird sang it: (ab-Kah-def-ghee-jeckly-monooqueer-stu-witses)

Can you believe I still remember the whole song?
No worries, I won't break into song for you.

However, I am going to do a fun little game where I will write down a positive word that comes to mind with each letter of the alphabet. If you decide to do it yourself, let me know!

D: Dutiful

Over the river and to the woods, to Grandmother's house we go....

1. What is your favorite Christmas Movie?
My absolute all time favorite is "Miracle on 34th St." - but I love, love, love the one with Natalie Wood.

2. Favorite Christmas Song?
This is a tough question. I'm sort of a purist, so most of my favorites are the classics -though I love them redone by artists such as Josh Grobin, Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood, etc. I typically love "Oh, Holy Night", "What Child is This", "Do you hear what I hear", etc.

But....I also love some newer songs, such as "Believe" by Josh Groban, "Where are you Christmas" by Faith Hill - and who didn't get choked up hearing "Buy these shoes" by Bob Carlisle when it first came out.

3. Favorite Holiday Memory?
I have so many great holiday memories. My favorite is a tie: surprising my sister & aunt w. my Mother after she moved to Florida. I have that one on tape....and they had no clue. She was hiding in the bathroom, and then came out to the dinner table without anyone noticing until she was there. Priceless...

Second, was G surprising me with a spectacular scavenger hunt around the house....just to end up back where I started with a beautiful diamond ring waiting for me. The hunt was even better than the reward - because the sentiment and romance that went into it - was invalueable. It wasn't my original diamond either, but a holiday "upgrade", if you will.

4. What kind of cookie/treat do you like to make?
Um, not sure if you're new to this blog, but I cook. I don't bake. For lack of a better term, I suck at baking.

5. Have you ever made an igloo? Like a real igloo?
No, but I've many a mean snow fort in my day. I was a kid during the Blizzard of '78 - and man, did we have snow. But in general, we had a ton more snow when I was little than we get today.

6. Do you love Starbucks?
As a matter of fact - I do. After years of throwing away cups of poorly made coffee - I finally get a perfect cup nearly every time. I was paying $2.10 at Dunks for a medium that was either burned, tasted like soap, wasn't made properly, or some other atrocity. Now, I pay $2.25 for a Grande and it's perfect every flipping time. Sure - it took me some time to get used to a stronger cup of coffee but it's so worth it. And no one makes a better peppermint mocha!

7. What makes the perfect Snowman?
All of its imperfections! It's all about the love....

8 What is your favorite part about Christmas?
What isn't there to love? I love it all. I can't say which one is my favorite part actually -- I love to give gifts, I love to cook dinner, I love to decorate the tree - I love to drive around looking at Christmas lights with kids, I love receiving everyone's Christmas cards. And best of all, I love the sense of spirit and happiness that everyone seems to be in this time of year.

9. Best gift you have ever received?
I've been fortunate to have received so many great gifts; I'm incredibly sentimental, so when I say I don't have a "best" gift - I mean it. However, my most treasured possession is also one of my most sentimental gifts - and it's a home made recipe book that my parents gave me when I was in my 20's; it features all of their recipes that are my childhood favorites - and new ones that they thought I might like. Everything is printed and in protective binders in a three ring notebook.

10. What is the snowman's name on Rudolph?
There's a snowman in Rudolph?
Oh...the narrator?! I don't know. But Burl Ives is his voice. (It took a second for that to click for me!)

11.Silver or Gold?
Depends on what, and where. For example, I prefer silver or white gold jewelry. But I love brushed gold matte ornaments - or gold brocade on burgundy velvet.

12. What is your favorite Christmas decoration?
The tree. And of course -fabulously scented candles because it's all about ambiance!

13. What's your Christmas decorating style?
I'd say overall traditional leaning towards victorian - but I have lots of fun and whimsical thrown in there.

14. Do you hang stockings?
No...the kids don't really know about stocking stuffers yet. Thank God!

15. How many days do you celebrate Christmas?
Did something change...? Isn't it only one day??

16. What was your favorite ornament on the tree as a child?
The play doh ornaments my Mom would let me make.

17. Where will you be spending this Christmas?
At home. Christmas is at my house - and it's always dinner that is a huge celebration.

18. What is your least favorite Christmas movie?
I don't know actually.

19. What do you want for Christmas this year?
World peace. The cure for Cancer. Jason Varitek.
(What?? It's not like I'm asking for a million dollars or anything...! )

20. Have you been naughty or nice this year?
I'm always, painfully, boring and nice. G wishes that there was a bit more naughty in me, but hey - a girl can't be perfect, right?

I'm ENTJ....what are you?

Meyer's Briggs Personality Test

Your Type is:
ENTJ
Extraverted Intuitive Thinking Judging

You are:
slightly expressed extravert; distinctively expressed intuitive personality;slightly expressed thinking personality;very expressed judging personality

Of the four aspects of strategic analysis and definition it is the marshaling or situational organizing role that reaches the highest development in the Fieldmarshal. As this kind of role is practiced some contingency organizing is necessary, so that the second suit of the Fieldmarshal's intellect is devising contingency plans. Structural and functional engineering, though practiced in some degree in the course of organizational operations, tend to be not nearly as well developed and are soon outstripped by the rapidly growing skills in organizing. But it must be said that any kind of strategic exercise tends to bring added strength to engineering as well as organizing skills.

Hardly more than two percent of the total population, Fieldmarshals are bound to lead others, and from an early age they can be observed taking command of groups. In some cases, they simply find themselves in charge of groups, and are mystified as to how this happened. But the reason is that they have a strong natural urge to give structure and direction wherever they are - to harness people in the field and to direct them to achieve distant goals. They resemble Supervisors in their tendency to establish plans for a task, enterprise, or organization, but Fieldmarshals search more for policy and goals than for regulations and procedures.

20 Random Questions....

Courtesy of Dawn...
Check out her answers too!

1. What's the last sporting event you watched?
That would be the game in which Brad Favre gave his place in history away. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the Saints are in the Superbowl - but seriously, Favre went from being potentially a legend to.....not being one. Definitely a great game none the less.

I know I have lurkers, but I've never tried to get anyone to say hi - because no one should feel pressured to. I write for me -- it's an outlet and a great way to keep in touch with people who want to keep in touch with me. I'm not typically a lurker - I generally comment if I visit. Saturday Survey....

It's been some time since I posted a survey on Saturday... so here we go!

1. If you could have named yourself, which name would you have chosen, and why?
Gina. No one messes with Gina.
But other than that, I always liked the name Catherine.

2. If you could relive a year in your life, what age would it be, and why?
I don't know truthfully. They were all great years, with good and bad things alike. I can't answer that one, I can't pick just one.

3. If you could go back and change one friendship in your past, who would it have been, and why?
Now this is a good question. There are a few friendships I'd have liked to have done without.... but the one I'd have changed, probably would've been the one that was the most important to me growing up. It wouldn't have been a change of the friendship per se, but a change of my reaction to the changes that occured in the friendship. I'd have not be so quick to cut every one off and distance myself (Clearly, my feelings had been hurt. Typical defense mechanism, right?) and I'd have been more laid back about it realizing that it wouldn't have stayed that way forever. But, I was young - and these are life lessons we don't always have until we mature, and learn grace.

4. If you could have dated one person in your past that you did not date, who would it be, and why?
Hmmm. I don't know actually. I mean in school, there were boys that I wished liked me - but they didn't. I don't regret not dating them though. (Wait, does Jason Varitek count???)

6. If you had the opportunity to live in another country, which one would it be, and why? If you choose NOT to live in another country, why do you want to stay in your current country?
I would never live in any country other than ours. Never. It does not require an explanation.
I would however, consider dual residency with the following: Italy, France, Grand Cayman Islands.

7. If you could choose your dream job, what would it be, and why?
My dream job has changed so many times over the years. I'd say while I never really knew that it would be this particular field -- running my own store is pretty darn close.

8. If you could wish a wish and it be guaranteed to come true (other than riches) what would it be, and why?
Ah, but if I tell you my wish -- it won't come true......

9. If you could meet two blogger friends (you may choose more, if you wish) who would they be?
Nichole, Suldog, Dawn, Sarah.... and sure, I'd love to meet everyone - that goes without saying.

In like a lion -- out like a lamb?

Well, we at least know the first half is correct. And truthfully, I'm alright with this phrase, so long as someone can guarantee me that this is the last time we'll have to look at the white stuff this season.

Which brings me to Lent. Still struggling on what to sacrfice. Though truthfully, I've sacrificed enough over the last year that I'm thinking I deserve a little indulgence this season. Just sayin'....

So, I'm home being Domestic Supergoddess, doing what I do best on these days -- which is cooking. So far, I've made lemon poppy muffins - and sandwiches with hot cocoa made with milk for the kiddies after coming inside from playing. I've got home made chocolate chip cookie dough made so I can make cookies in a bit. I've got a beautiful rib eye roast marinating in the oven -- presliced, might I add. I scored this 6lb roast pre sliced at my local market. For a score of a price! Now, why is it when I want to make a roast during the holidays I have to pay through my nose for it? But I digress....I've got that marinated and waiting to be cooked, along with roasted potatoes, asparagus and salad.

Did I mention I like to cook on snow days?

There's never a wish, better than this...when you've only got 100 years to live

I am tired today.
And sore.

The cold I've been fighting is closer to winning it's battle; I've been able to keep it at bay, but today I'm tired, and really sore all over. I'm hoping it's the beginning of the end and maybe it's turning a corner. Needless to say, as a result - I'm perfectly content being Domestic Supergoddess and just hang out with the kiddies until I have to go to PT.

I did get a new oven yesterday, though not the double oven I'd hoped for. It's nice, high efficiency and stainless - and truthfully, though I'd love, love, love the double oven - why bother for now. I will have the kitchen of my dreams at some point and the oven isn't very different from the one I just bought - so it won't increase the kitchen value that much. Why spend what I don't need to at the moment. (Being insightful of the economy, check, Not being overly indulgent unnecessarily, check.)

So, today since I'm a little under the weather I figured a survey would be fun.
***********************************

1. What’s something in your life that’s pretty much been used up and needs replacing?
My shower head apparantly. It broke off before I was able to get into the shower this morning -- what a pain it was showering in the kid's bathroom.

2. What is older than you? Many things and many people. That's a silly question.

3. Where do you belong? I am where I belong.

4. Who is no longer a stranger to you? Hmm. I have no idea??

5. What's your favorite accent? I love all foreign accents. They sound beautiful to me.

6. Do you like apples? I do - Gala's and Granny Smiths are my most favorite.

7. Do you play baseball? No, but I'm one heck of an armchair manager and GM.

8. Do you enjoy starting drama? Ugh. Absolutely not.

9. Can you run fast? Yes -- when I can run. :)

10. Do you believe in magic? I believe in magic and miracles - and everything in between.

11. What was the first conscious thought you had this morning? What time is it?

12. When you get online, what do you do first? I check my email.

13. What is the slowest realization you've ever come to? That I have to accept the things I can not change.

14. What name would you want have if you were the opposite sex? Hmm. Maybe Dave. Dave's a nice guy, and he's friends with everyone. Dave's reliable and dependable.

15. What is a song that you love to hate? "Walking on Sunshine". I hate that song and yet I know every flipping lyric to it.

Tagged by the letter..."G".

So, my good friend from "Along the Broken Road" (Dawn) had a post where you have to pick a letter (or have one assigned to you!) and write 10 words that you love, which begin with the letter.

Since I'm far too irritated with Boras & Co., to post my thoughts on the Texas Massacre of last night - I figured I'd do my Saturday survey a day early. Since she hasn't gotten back to me on assigning a letter, I picked a random one.

Besides, it's a snowy night here in Boston, I'm sitting by the fire w/ the family, sipping on a good glass of Riesling -- my creative juices might be flowing a bit at the moment. Let's hope so anyway... G is a really difficult letter!

1. Graciousness. It's a quality that I hope I have - and one that I'm hoping to pass onto my children. There are few things more annoying than someone who isn't gracious.

2. Gentle. I love everything about the word gentle. It's soft, it rolls of the tongue nicely. A gentle person is a kind person -- and again, that is a trait I'm hoping to instill in my children.

3. Goblets. Everyone should own a beautiful pair of wine goblets.

4. Glorious. The word glorious just makes me feel happy. Spectacular even! It's brilliant and sunshine, and.... beauty.

5. Gumbo. Goat cheese. Grapes. Garlic. Grilled cheese sandwiches! (You know I'm all about the food!)

6. Gemini. My son is a Gemini -- my best friend is one, and I have yet to meet a nicer astrological sign, truth be told.

7. Grammar. I'm a fiend about grammar. I deplore the use of poor grammar and really have to hold myself back from correcting others!

8. Gorgeous. One of my favorite adjectives. I think I like it best when it's not used towards people, but more so to describe the environment.

9. Gemelli. I love, love, love gemelli pasta. One of my all time favorites to use and toss with shrimp and veggies with olive oil. It's just the perfect choice.

10. "G". My husband. Technically, his name would really be an "E" but he'd kill me for putting that in writing -- so G it is! He'd probably be upset if I put my other nickname for him in print as well, so...let's just keep at he's my most favorite G word!

What I am is what I am...are you what you are, or what?

1. Is it difficult for you to look into someone's eyes when you are talking to them?
I don't know how to not look someone in the eye. That would be odd for me. I've always been a very straight forward kind of person, and you can't connect to anyone if you don't look them in the eye. I generally don't trust someone if they are shifty eyed -- though sometimes it's just a lack of confidence rather than a character issue; but that’s where a judgment call comes in. Even when I do public speaking, I make eye contact with people in the audience. I'm definitely a "warm fuzzy" kind of person when it comes to interacting with others.

2. You are on a flight from Honolulu to Chicago non-stop. There is a fire in the back of the plane. You get enough time to make ONE phone call. Who would you call?
Oh, why are these thought provoking questions always so dark? First, let me preface this by saying I hope I never have to think about this in real life! Depends on who I'm travelling with... if I'm alone, it's G. If not, then I guess my Mother. But I wouldn't want her to worry because me being the eternal optimist would be convinced that we can make an emergency landing somewhere. Then it would be "no harm no foul". No need to get everyone all worked up over nothing.

3. You have to choose between your significant other and your best friend, who do you choose?
Why would I ever have to choose? Should be a complete and total non-issue. I'm not 16. And even then – I’d never make that kind of a choice. That’s just silliness.

4.You are at the doctor's office and she has just informed you that you have approximately one month to live..
(A) Do you tell anyone/everyone you are going to die?

No. I don’t know. I’d tell everyone that is in my immediate circle…but I wouldn’t tell everyone I know because, you know – Ms. Eternal Optomist would be hoping/praying/believing that they were wrong and that I can overcome anything if I just put my mind to it. Besides, I don’t like people being fake, and I wouldn’t want someone being nice just because they felt that they “had to”. Not that I encounter many not nice people, but there are some in my “immediate vicinity” who aren’t always kind – I wouldn’t want them to suddenly “kill me with kindness” (no pun intended) because they think they need to in order to be a “good person”. Insincerity irritates me.

(B) What do you do with your remaining days?
Living. Laughing. Loving. Sounds corny, but seriously – what else matters?

(C) Would you be afraid?
Yes, a little. I wouldn’t’ want to be uncomfortable – nor would I want my kids to see me unhealthy. But I’d definitely be opportunistic. :)

5. You can have one of the following two things: trust or love?
I can't have one without the other, and I refuse to compromise. If I love you – I trust you. I don’t believe that it can truly be love if you can't trust the person. But…I think trust can exist independent of love, though. I trust people that I don’t have affection for.

6. You are walking down the street on your way to work. There is a dog drowning in the canal on the side of the street. Your boss has told you if you are late one more time you get fired. What do you do?
First of all, I’d never be in that situation. But I’m pretending, right? Okay… I’d gladly accept the firing. If my boss that was much of a jerk to discontinue my services because I stopped to save a helpless creature – he/she is so not someone I’d want to associate with anyway.

7. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Only one place, huh? Italy.

8. Think of the last person who you really knew that died. You have the chance to give them 1 hour of life back, but you have to give one year of your life. Is it okay for you?
In a heartbeat.

9. Are you the kind of person that you would want to have as a friend?
I am. Except for the fact that I tend to withdraw and keep to myself when I’m going through “stuff”. I’m a great listener, great helper – but don’t accept/need/want assistance from anyone when I’m struggling with something, so I prefer to keep to myself. I’ll sort of not be involved socially with things when I’m not happy with how things are going. That’s a little unfair I think… but, hey – I’m a Virgo. What can you do.

10. Does love = sex?
I think for many, the answer is no. But for just as many, the answer is yes. Some people don’t feel loved unless they’re physically intimate.
For me it’s no. I don’t need physical intimacy for someone to show me they love me.
There are many other ways for me to know that I’m loved, physically is just one way.

11. One of your best friend dies, what would you do?
Be quiet. Take it all in – and then try to help their family out as best I can.

12. When was the last time you told someone HONESTLY how you felt?
When don’t I? I’m not a game player. There is no “reading between the lines” with me.
Except in my blog occasionally….but that’s because I’m not directly addressing anyone.

13. What would be harder for you, to tell someone you love them or that you hate them?
Neither. It is what it is. I’ve never truly hated anyone….though I’ve been really pissed off to the point that I am disgusted. But truly hate? I don’t know if I have that in me.

14. What do you think would be the last thing for you to give up on?
Myself.

15. Excluding romantic love, when was the last time you told someone you love them?
My kids. Multiple times daily. My pets, always. My immediate family (e.g. parents, sister) – not that often actually. But as much as my Mother would say “I love you”, it wasn’t to the same extreme of frequency that I do it with my kids, so it’s not that big of a deal I don’t think.

16. If you had to go back in time and change one thing, what would you do?
I don’t know. I’m glad of where I am in life; I don’t have any regrets…if I changed even one thing – I wouldn’t be who I am today. And I like my life. Sure, there are things about it that I’m not always happy with but that’s life in general. We don’t always love our job, etc… but that’s all fluid, and can change at any time. Everything is temporary…..

17. Imagine. It is a dark night, you are alone, it is raining outside, you hear a noise. What do you do?
Try to go to sleep anyway. Plus, I always have a dog. They’re the BEST alarm system!

18. Would you give a stranger CPR if they were dying?
Absolutely!

19. Are you old-fashioned?
It depends on what you’re talking about. That’s really too broad of a question. In some ways I am – others not so much.

20. Which would you choose, true love with a guarantee of a heartbreak or to never have love?
It is better to have loved and lost – than never to have loved at all. Cliché, but I believe it.
