Retail therapy does a girl some good....

Today, finally - after two long years - I made it back to Wrentham.
And yes, the angels sang as I turned off the exit.

I was on a mission - this wasn't a frivolous shopping excursion. I had definitive goals: shoes, sneakers, sweats & clothes for school. The kiddies go back on Tuesday - which is right around the corner, and so I wanted to be sure that they had a good base to go back with.

Once they were done, I did pick G up a few shirts at Eddie Bauer.
And yes, Momma got a brand new bag.

I went to Ann Taylor and browsed, and browsed....I actually had a few hundred dollars in gift cards on me, and as much as I wanted that money to burn a hole in my pocket - I just couldn't! See, when I worked at an office I had to dress up all the time and so I had a need for new pretty clothes. But now..... well, the need for me to dress up is few and far between. It's more occasion driven now. I wear sweats and yoga clothes for my day to day at the store. I could wear nice jeans and shirts but not on days that I'm getting deliveries, which is 3-4 days a week typically; plus I can't wear heels any more unless they're wedges because I'm on my feet all day lifting cases and boxes, so....the days of my getting to look like a girl are fewer and further between. Well, a girly girl anyway.

So, out I walked and yes, I was sad that I couldn't bring myself to spend money on things I didn't need. Isn't that what frivolous shopping is all about? This is what happens when you're just not a frivolous shopper. Who am I kidding - I'm not frivoulous about anything, I'm serious. Moving on...

Coach was having this great sale; I went in just to browse but as I walked in, the sales girl shoved a "30% off" sale ticket in my hand. So as I'm looking - I wandered into the clearance section. I knew I needed a new wallet anyway, but imagine my surprise when I found a wallet that was on clearance AND I really liked it. Then even better, I found a purse that was also 50% off - and with the additional 30% - I ended up spending more than half of what typically one purse would cost! I tried finding a picture to link to but there are so many online and none of them seem to be exactly what I got. It's a brown signature cross body bag, with a poppy fabric strap and a poppy stripe on the bottom quarter. It's pretty....and though pink isn't usually my choice of color, there was something about it I liked. And the wallet is great, it's white and silver leather - no logo - which is nice because it's small and can go in any pocketbook without being "matchey matchey". I don't necessarily like that when it comes to purses and bags - I prefer classic versatility.

In any event, I felt great when I left because I got something for everyone - and I didn't spend all my money -- and yet I got alot. I can't wait to put everything into the kids closets and get them all resorted and organized.

Since we're having a hurricane this weekend- or so the rumor goes -- I think that is going to be my task at hand on Sunday. A nice cozy day in pajamas and getting the kids clothes all set and ready to start a new school year.

It makes me smile just thinking about it....

Monday's Musings....

1. Who gets mosquito bitten...in the face?!?!? Um, yeah...that'd be me. Seriously! I have three huge welts on my face right now. We were at a friend's house for a Tastefully Simple party tonight - and we were doing a little wine tasting in their fabulous backyard - when clearly, the mosquitos in the area decided to be more like vampires than bugs. I feel like I'm a True Blood character, but I didn't get the opportunity to choose between good vampire or bad vampire...

2. New York was amazing. Truly. We must've walked about 20 miles within 24 hours, between where we stayed in Carnegie Hill to all of Central Park, from the East Village and Chelsea to 5th Ave - we saw so much more than we expected to. We walked the High Line which is a MUST see if you are ever there. This visit was definitely an education in greenspace in the concrete jungle and I loved it. I do think that I'd like for us to see about buying a small condo sometime so we always have a place to go and stay....
2. Momofuku Noodle Bar rocks. Kudos to the staff for their very creative menu, attentive staff and talented chefs that we had the pleasure of sitting in front of. By the way - the buns are amazing. I haven't quite figured out the whole genre of the menu - it's almost Asian meets Indian meets Korean fusion; the person sitting next to me was eating this unbelievable Kimchee dish that someone had them custom create; I think the dish I had might have had Korean sausage actually -- I'm not sure. But whatever it was - it was fabulous, and a flavor profile that I haven't had before. I love creative and exciting cuisine and for what it was - this didn't disappoint. Actually - my expectations of a noodle bar were rather low, having not been before - so this was really a pleasant surprise.

3. I can't believe school starts next week! And yet I'm stil so behind. I have to take the kids to get their school supplies and backpacks this week - which isn't that big of a deal really. I'm going to Wrentham this week (fingers crossed!) to finish up their school clothes shopping and I can't wait. It's been a long, long, long time since the angels have sung to me as hit the city limit - and even though I'm not going shopping for me - I'm just going to be happy to be there. I love buying the kiddies clothes. It just makes me feel so happy.......they look cute and adorable, and I guess that just makes me feel good. Who knows what makes us Moms tick....

So much to say -- so little time!

Or rather, no patience to take the time to say it all. That might be a more accurate statement.

1. We have a home inspection on Monday.
So very exciting for the new house to be moving forward. I think the only real obstacle - and truly, not an obstacle, I don't think - is the appraisal. It's just that houses in this particular price range are a bit fewer and further between so it may be a challenge for pulling comps; but the house is definitely worth the price, comps aside - so I'm pretty hopeful that it won't be too much of an issue. And we will cross that road when we get to it....

2. I almost feel badly for Casey Anthony. Almost...but not quite. The defense is laughable, and truly - the evidence is mounting against her rather strongly. I don't see how she's going to get anything but murder in the 1st. I sort of get irritated when I see talk host types (such as Dr. Drew -- who, by the way is a sex/drug addict therapist -- does that mean we want to see him on late night CNN/Fox? This girl thinks not..,but I digress.) say that our fascination with this case is the "soap opera drama' that goes with it.

Listen up my friend - that's not the attraction or fascination with this case. It's the sheer disbelief and horror that a beautiful young girl could be killed and thrown away like trash by her mother, who -- as she is attractive, makes it that much more difficult for society to believe she would do that because, of course - attractive people do no wrong, right? It's complete horror and we don't want to believe it -and we're disgusted by the details but we can't stop watching because our hearts are broken by it. The atrocity of the crime and the callousness of the mother is just something that seems inhuman. We don't really want to watch it - but yet we are riveted at the same time. And thank God for that - otherwise little Caylee would be a nameless, faceless victim of child abuse. It's not soap opera, or drama - it's the humanity in us that makes us watch and continue to watch - and hope and pray that Casey Anthony gets the punishment that she deserves.

3. Feeling chunky. Okay, so maybe that's a bit exaggerated. It's only 7lbs but wow - I am feeling them. I'm probably the least in shape I've been in 6 years and I just can't get myself motivated to take the time to get back to running. I've had no opportunity to practice yoga - which I sorely miss, but I should be able to at least squeeze a run in! I am getting back into the groove on Monday, so this is my last week of indulgence. Starting Monday, it's back to running and shedding some of this extra blah....

4. And finally - a little something to make you laugh.
Because haven't we all known a Cooper, at some point? Or maybe - a dumbass??

Cautious optomism....

So, while I'm too tired at this moment to go into details -- it appears that the house we love, love, love is going to work out after all.

I have in my hot little hands -- a Purchase & Sale agreement.

No transplanting the kids to a new school system and new friends! We move literally around the corner from where we are now....a great neighborhood, (other kids in the area -- priceless!!!)fenced backyard, an inground pool -- and G is beyond excited about the big ol' pond in the backyard to go paddleboating or kayaking in. Plus, he can't wait to stake out a spot to put a koi pond in. Fun, right?

It's been a long road. And not exactly a smooth one.
But if all goes well, by the end of July it will be all over.

LOVE this fun little song....

Keep drinkin' coffee
Stare me down across the table
While I look outside

So many things I'd say if only I were able
But I just keep quiet
And count the cars that pass by

You've got opinions, man
We're all entitled to 'em
But I never asked

So let me thank you for time
And try to not waste any more of mine
Get out of here fast

I hate to break it to you babe
But I'm not drowning
There's no one here to save

Who cares if you disagree
You are not me
Who made you king of anything
So you dare tell me who to be
Who died
And made you king of anything

You sound so innocent
All full of good intent
You swear you know best

But you expect me to
Jump up on board with you
Ride off into your delusional sunset

I'm not the one who's lost
With no direction oh
But you won't ever see

You're so busy makin' maps
With my name on them in all caps
You got the talkin' down just not the listening

And who cares if you disagree
You are not me
Who made you king of anything
So you dare tell me who to be
Who died
And made you king of anything

All my life
I've tried
To make everybody happy while I
Just hurt
And hide
Waitin' for someone to tell me it's my turn
To decide

Who cares if you disagree
You are not me
Who made you king of anything
So you dare tell me who to be
Who died
And made you king of anything

Who cares if you disagree
You are not me
Who made you king of anything
So you dare tell me who to be
Who died
And made you king of anything

Let me hold your crown, babe

Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday....

So last night I appropriately ended the night with a high end, high alcohol Chardonnay.

It was my son's 10th birthday, and we took 10 friends to Canobie Lake Park. It was a fantastic day - no lines, no waiting because it was chilly and overcast, but truly - those are the best days to go because you get no lines and no waiting. The kids went on everything multiple times, everyone got along which I was afraid might be a challenge because there's only one of my son - and of course, everyone was wanting to pair off and ride with him on rides - but it all worked out. All the kids got along great and despite a few hiccups here and there it was a really great day. But definitely exhausting....(and expensive, might I add.)

I can't believe T is 10 years old. Double digits. A decade. Officially a "tween". And Princess Petunia, well.... soon to be 7, going on 15. Where does the time go?

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

10 to 1

Tonight was my son's 2d Annual WWE Wrestlemania Viewing party. 10 ten year old boys -- and one soon to be 7 year old girl -- in one room watching the WWE. You can't even begin to imagine....
(It actually was a great night - and much better than last year. The boys have really grown up from 8&9 years of age to 9&10 years. Lucky for me!)

Listen, I love my Princess Petunia; she's sassy and artistic and sensitive - but I've got to tell you - wow, is she just crazy sometimes!!

Okay, here's the deal: she's got 6 boy cousins, and only 1 girl cousin who's much younger than she is -- well, actually she's only 10 months younger than her but she seems so much younger because Princess Petunia is a bit more precocious and is used to being around kids that are older; that being said, it makes for her to feel not only more than comfortable being in a room full of boys -- but she wants them to think she's "cool" so she goes overboard on calling attention to herself.

I've tried to advise her that they are going to like her best if she's just herself and that sometimes being quiet and more subdued is better than trying to be as loud and aggressive as they are; but she doesn't get it.

Of course, this could be because she's only going to be 7.

Still, I'd take a room full of 10 boys to a room full of 10 boys and 1 girl. Seriously.

Things that make you go "hmmm".....

1. I got to see the house we love again. Because.... we put it under agreement today. (Yay!!)Hopefully, the house they want won't get an offer before we get a buyer. It's one of those "timing" types of sales. I am so excited...albeit, cautiously.

2. Facebook -- back off. I am beyond tired of FB asking me to make it my homepage every time I log off; I'm even more tired of it trying to keep me constantly logged in. Are you kidding me??? They're shoving themselves so far down my throat that it's not even worth going on anymore.

3. Sometimes I wonder.....don't people realize they're supposed to work when they're at work... ?

4. I love pretty things. Pretty things make me happy....don't they make you feel the same way? Well, then again - I am a girl. But still...
So, imagine my surprise when I ran across this fun website via Cafe Chatelain. I had so much fun making the following pretty room -- and if you sign up and design something - share it with me, would you?

Technology that I'm digging these days...

1. The Color Nook. Okay, while I'm most definitely a "see, touch, feel" kind of girl when it comes to shopping - I am enjoying this little gadget. It cant' replace the excitement of going to the book store, smelling the books and touching the covers - but since this girl doesn't typically have the time to make such excursions -- the Nook is working out just fine. I'm half way through Dan Brown's "The Lost Symbol" and just downloaded "90 Minutes in Heaven" which I'll be starting next. Got book recommendations? Please share! Have a Nook and want to "lend"me a book - let me know! Remember, one of my resolutions was to get back to reading and this is totally affording me the opportunity.

2. Pandora. Okay, again - I'm all about the music store (love, love, love Newbury Comics), but I'm really digging this Pandora thing that is bundled with the Nook. So I can read AND listen to music, which truthfully - is rather counterintuitive for me because it can prevent me from really becoming "lost" in the story. But still, is pretty cool. Pretty, pretty, cool. (Yes, Curb fans, that was a shoutout to the show which is "supposed" to be coming back on the air really soon....)

3. Netflix. No, I haven't joined yet - I must get my Roku box. But, WOW - just to be able to catch up on shows like Smallville and Greys - it's beyond worth it! Anyone a Netflix member? Care to share thoughts -- let me know!

What are some great gadgets that you've got that you're loving these days?

Monday, January 31, 2011

Mmmkay. I'm a little bored with all the snow. Just sayin'...

And, I'm a little bit frustrated that I have yet to start yoga because it seems every week we have a blizzard or two - which means the kids don't go to school, or I get 8 trucks in one day.

And the poor little kiddies are thinking that they'll either go into late June - or even worse, make up time on a Saturday. (Hmmm. School on Saturdays? Mommy might get some shopping time in....might not be such a bad idea after all! Oh, I'm only kidding...I wouldn't really want to see the kiddies go on the weekend.)

In other late breaking news, we just finished having a family dinner watching the WWE Royal Rumble - and wow, what a disappointment the end result was. Any of you wrestling fans out there will appreciate what I'm saying; and for me, I was quiet disappointed that Edge did not make an appearance. But it was a good show otherwise, and the kiddies certainly enjoyed seeing some of their favorites - and a few favorite formerly retired surprises - show up and join in on the fun .

The house we looked at two weeks ago, we really love and hope that we are going to be able to secure a buyer for our home so we can purchase it. It's one of those "timing will be everything" kind of deals, so fingers crossed. In the meantime, Saturday was our 7 year anniversary living in our home now. Funny little tidbit: this is the longest G and I have ever lived in a house. We typically end up moving/selling in 3 years.

But this house we're hoping for now....that would be the last house. At least until we got old enough to want to downsize. Though truthfully - I don't know if I'll ever want to do that. I will always want a large, family home that I can have my children and someday grandchildren - congregate in whenever they want.

He likes me...he really, really likes me!

Or at least Facebook would like me to believe so.

If any of you are connected with the social media nightmare Facebook -- then you'll understand what I mean. So, I log on quickly this morning because I got a message that a girlfriend tagged me in an email; when I get to my home page, there's a prompt of "people you may know", or "find friends" - and guess who's on there...? It says Jason Varitek. I know, right?!?!?

So, I click on the picture for the profile and immediately realize it's not him....which isn't really all that tough to do.

But seriously - it was the weirdest thing to see on my page.

Stupid Facebook... you'd think at least they'd do something for verification of authenticity so at least the next time they suggest I know someone -- I might really want to! Not to suggest that he wouldn't want to be my friend on Facebook, of course....

Hmmph! (She says, flipping her hair....)

Who doesn't love holiday traditions....

Tonight was the annual tree decorating soiree...

It's funny, over the past few years - my tree has downsized. I used to have this amazingly huge tree, about 7.5 feet but very full - with over 1000 lights on it. It was stunning.... but last year, the middle section wouldn't light up, so I ended up buying this very small, thin replacement tree.
I used about 1/3 of my ornaments this year, and even less ribbon; and I still need to get a new tree skirt tomorrow. But it still looks pretty! And we hung all of our most favorite ornaments, which is most important. I mean, there are tons we could've hung - but we chose our very favorites which almost makes the tree that much more special this year.

So it was a great night....chinese food, pumpkin and gingerbread donuts....and then Princess Petunia caught the nasty stomach bug that's been circulating, and yuck - vomit everywhere. Nothing this Mom can't handle though. In the tub she went, I washed the floor... and she promptly fell asleep. At this rate, by about 9 a.m. she should be as good as new.

And this weekend we're chock full of holiday parties, so it should be a fun and relaxing enjoyable weekend for all of us in the "I'm just a Girl" family.

I hope that you do the same.

I'm ENTJ....what are you?

Meyer's Briggs Personality Test

Your Type is:
ENTJ
Extraverted Intuitive Thinking Judging

You are:
slightly expressed extravert; distinctively expressed intuitive personality;slightly expressed thinking personality;very expressed judging personality

Of the four aspects of strategic analysis and definition it is the marshaling or situational organizing role that reaches the highest development in the Fieldmarshal. As this kind of role is practiced some contingency organizing is necessary, so that the second suit of the Fieldmarshal's intellect is devising contingency plans. Structural and functional engineering, though practiced in some degree in the course of organizational operations, tend to be not nearly as well developed and are soon outstripped by the rapidly growing skills in organizing. But it must be said that any kind of strategic exercise tends to bring added strength to engineering as well as organizing skills.

Hardly more than two percent of the total population, Fieldmarshals are bound to lead others, and from an early age they can be observed taking command of groups. In some cases, they simply find themselves in charge of groups, and are mystified as to how this happened. But the reason is that they have a strong natural urge to give structure and direction wherever they are - to harness people in the field and to direct them to achieve distant goals. They resemble Supervisors in their tendency to establish plans for a task, enterprise, or organization, but Fieldmarshals search more for policy and goals than for regulations and procedures.

On this day, I see clearly...everything has come to light

Today, I had my first WWE experience.
Seriously - it was so much fun!!

I never really watched wrestling until my son liked it - and now of course, I enjoy it as well. My son has gone to quite a few matches -but today was the first time that Princess Petunia and I went as well. It was really fun - and it's wild to see everyone up close and in person. If you think they look big on television - you really get the perspective of how large they truly are when you see them. (Of course, sitting in the second row makes it that much easier, but still....)

We all have our "favorites" - and mine has been Edge. It was so fun because he had a match, but then came out again in the end. It wasn't a televised match, just what they call a "house show" - but I don't think that makes much difference outside of less fireworks, drama and maybe shorter matches. It still was with all top performers and just a good time.

It might sound silly - but I have to tell you, if you've never watched, give it a shot.
It's really very fun .

She comes from Boston....

You know you're from Boston when.....

You think of Philadelphia as the Midwest.

You think it's your God-given right to cut someone off in traffic.

You think there are only 25 letters in the alphabet (no R's).

You think three straight days of 90+ temperatures is a heatwave.

All your pets are named after Red Sox, Celtics or Bruins.

You refer to 6 inches of snow as a "dusting."

Just hearing the words "New York" puts you in an angry mood.

You don't think you have an attitude.

You always 'bang a left' as soon as the light turns green, and oncoming traffic always expects it.

Everything in town is "a five minute walk."

When out of town, you think the natives of the area are all whacked.

You still can't bear to watch highlights from game 6 of the 1986 World Series.

You have no idea what the word compromise means.

You believe using your turn signal is a sign of weakness.

You don't realize that you walk and talk twice as fast as everyone else.

You're anal, neurotic, pessimistic and stubborn.

You think if someone is nice to you, they must want something or are from out of town.

Your favorite adjective is "wicked."

You think 63 degree ocean water is warm.

You think the Kennedy's are misunderstood.

Whatsa happenin'...hot stuff...?

It's been a few days since I posted; it's funny, sometimes I feel like my mind is a sieve. I have all these great things I want to blog about - and then they completely slip my mind. How great could they have been, right? Clearly, if I can't hang onto them in my head for a day or two - then certainly they can't be that noteworthy.

Sort of like this wine I'm drinking. Dare I say - terrible. It's a wine that a producer out in California would like me to carry if they can get distribution. They sent me 4 different varietals - and this is my first try. Let's hope at least one of the other three is better than this one. Ugh.

So let's see. I've got a few tidbits retained that I can share with you. And they go like this:

1. With the good - there is the bad. I saw two movies over the weekend - not at the theatre, but at home. The first one was "The Hurt Locker". Definitely a great movie....though, truthfully not sure why that was the name of the movie as a whole. I could've come up with better names but clearly I'm not the Academy Award winner in the room, so.... we'll leave it at that. The other movie was...well, let's just say that it has officially knocked "Eye of the Beholder" out of the spot of being the worst movie ever. It's called "Moon", with Kevin Spacey and Sam Rockwell. It was nothing short of awful. The premise seemed pretty cool.... but it fell beyond flat. It was horrible actually! Do yourself a favor, and don't ever see it. You can't get that 90 minutes of your life back....

2. Who wants to be on Food TV? I do! They (being Food TV, that is) added a last minute audition spot for "The Next Food Network Star" here in Boston and so I figured "what the heck?" and I went. Rumor has it that the cast is pretty much set - there are only a few spots left open for contestants so I knew that my chances were pretty much slim to none. But I went anyway - and it was really sort of fun. I mean, you go with no expectations - and you hope for the best. We're supposed to hear if we're wanted for an on-camera audition, and I'm not holding my breath. I'm sure they're looking for someone with a better culinary background, but it was fun to try anyway. There's a high about auditioning, and truly - that's probably the last one I'll be going on.

3. So, it looks like we may be moving. No place far - we're staying in the same town we're in - great school system, good friends, fantastic commuting location. But there are different things we need in in a house, and neighborhood. Our house officially went on the market today. Woohoo! Now if we can only find a house we like....

There's probably more...but I'll wait until another day. Besides, if I say it all today - whatever will I have to share tomorrow?

SURPRISE!!!

Somehow, G managed to surprise me for my big "40". It's not officially until Friday, but he kept hyping up a big present he had planned for me on the 18th of September, and "not to make any plans" for that day.....when in reality, he had a huge surprise party planned for me last night!
I wasn't just surprised...I was shocked. Stunned. Never saw it coming - not even a little.

Everyone from my best girlfriend in the world whom I never get to see....to my fabulous girlfriends (aka the "Aunties"), all our family -- even my Dad who flew in yesterday morning. (that's him peeking in the background.)

I don't have any photos of the actual surprise - these are just a few from my camera once the shock wore off. Definitely was a fabulous way to start this new year in my life. G's right, he keeps saying I had a tough year -- and you know what, he's right - I did. So this was without doubt a step in the right direction for change in the best way.
