You do the math....

Okay. So this birthday party for my son has gotten a little out of hand.
Foodwise, it's always out of hand... but that's the fun part for me. I love cooking.

Le menu du jour: Marinated chicken tenders, quarter pounder hot dogs, super thick .75 lb hamburgers, spicy turkey burgers, sausages (hot & sweet), baked ziti, lasagna, chili, cole slaw, potato salad, regular salad. Then of course, there's the desserts.

Of course, owning a wine shop - a dozen plus white wines of varying styles (some of my very favorites!) as well as about a half a dozen reds will be available. Truly, most reds don't move all that well - even at a bbq when the food really does it justice. But most people just drink what they know they like and most crowds gravitate to white. It's all set up "tasting" style so people can try what they like before they take a glass.

Curious Creatures will be making an appearance today, so aside from the bouncy house/slide/obstacle course combination, the kids will get to indulge in meeting animals from all walks of life; between that and the wiffle ball games, the bubbles, sidewalk chalk, big wheels, and everything else that's escaping me at the moment.

Did I mention that my son is only 7?

Well, we had to invite his whole first grade class -- and their families, so I had to think of something to keep the 25+ kids we might have here happy and occupied. 10 of them are coming w. their respective siblings, plus the cousins and other friends we have coming - so this is probably going to be one of the biggest parties to date.

Wish me luck. Me & my Williams Sonoma apron are in for the long haul today....

Wow!! You really did go all out for his party. And to think, I was stuck on a website for hours just trying to pick out invitations. My sister asked me to plan my nephew party this year, and not having kids myself left me with not a single idea of how to approach the party planning. Thankfully a fellow blogger told me that the first thing I needed to do was to pick out invitations and get them sent out so they suggested a site called http://www.invitationconsultants.com to order from. I spent hours trying to come up with a theme and once I did I finally went to the website and ordered the invitations. After that I was stuck. That's why I decided to comment. You gave me a great idea. Because this is my nephew I decided that everything goes and I want to make this a really big party. So thanks!! I'm headed down to the party rental place to reserve one of those bouncy houses. The kids will love it!!

Wow!! I am flabbergasted at your amazing menu!

People gravitate to whites?? omg. Not out here they don't! We went wine tasting a few weeks ago and picked up a very interesting Syrah... it had lots of legs and a very intersting plum color. Very good.

What wines are you serving?? As the owner of a wine shop, I'm sure I could learn so much just from what you're offering!

Have a great time!

Hi Anonymous -
Thanks, glad I could help!

Okay, postscript is that I'm totally irritated because while I was planning on 85+ given the RSVPs I ended up recieving - if I had 40, that would be alot. A good portion who "said" they were coming, didn't make it. I wouldn't mind, except I bought SO MUCH FOOD. And some left very early due to some "issues" they ran into. Hmm. So, I'm thinking next year it's definitely time to take it down a notch.

We still had a blast though! My son loved the creatures, and so did I!!!

Nichole: We served so much. Reisling, Olivier Nyakas, Chimney Creek Saub. Blanc so much more -but those are some of the whites; for the reds we went basic with Michael Sullberg Cab, and a few other really easy drinking merlots and shiraz.

Dawn: hahaha, try cooking it! I'm beat!!!

Holy cow! Can you adopt me on my birthday? :)

Thomas: haahhaha, sure thing.

Oh, and for the record, it's Sauv Blanc, not Saub Blanc. Clearly I was blinded by exhaustion when I wrote. Oh, and maybe a good buzz! ;)
