You like me...you really, really like me!

Let's Oscar chat - shall we?

The best: Demi Moore in all of her insanely fit and gorgeous glory. Talk about looking timeless... no wonder that cougar nabbed such a young husband! I'd marry her for God's sake. Helen Mirren -- in a word -- stunning. She is the epitome of graceful aging. Favorite dresses of the evening: Demi, Rachel McAdams, Sandra Bullock. Kate Winslet and Penelope Cruz. Don't get me wrong, there were others but those were showstoppers for me. I loved the very smart yet sexy long hair styles that were on alot of people - including some of those I just mentioned. I really enjoyed Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin as hosts; not too over the top, not harsh and mean as some hosts can be to their audience members and for the first time the hosts were genuinely funny. Loved them. Sandra Bullock's acceptance speech -- was fabulous. I love her anyway -- I totally want to be best friends with her. I guess in a nutshell, the show as a whole was done well this year. I had no regrets staying up until midnight to watch every single moment of it. What I do know, is that next year -- I'm so having a Pajamas Oscar party at Chez "I'm Just a Girl"; complete with champagne of course!

The worst: Farrah Fawcett being left off the memorial presentation. Ouch, that one hurt me - one can't imagine how her family and friends must've felt. Sarah Jessica Parker's horribly orange skin and bad hair style. Ugh, what was her stylist thinking??!?! I did not at all like the beehive updo's some women wore - there's something elegant up an updo, but most of them I saw looked like old women with straggly hairs sticking out everywhere. When someone like JLo has her hair up and slicked back she is stunning. Last night....not so much. Just sayin'..... Kristen Stewart is continuing to be on my radar as the "least talented person in Hollywood". She was less than impressive yet again last night. While I was beyond thrilled that Mo'nique won her award, I was not equally as impressed with her relatively angry and bitter acceptance.

The best part of the Oscars for me -- is the opportunity to get a glimpse at some movies that I more than likely didn't get the chance to see during the year. And now, I've got some things that I'm actually excited about watching.

And if that's what I get from the show, outside of getting to play armchair fashion critic -- then truly, that's good enough for me!

All I can say is...."oh, my."

So, after much talk of hearing about this god-awful show on MTV -- I gave Jersey Shore a whirl.
Seriously?!?!
Seriously.

How sad is it that I can't wait for the next episode?
Partly out of the fact that I'm just waiting for the insanely stupid things to come out of their mouths at any given moment; and partly because it's unbelievable to see how serious these people are and have no clue at how poorly they truly come off. I'm in awe at some of the comments and phrases they say. It's hysterical.

Speaking of hysterical and foolish, I can not wait for American Idol to come back!!
And it's starting on January 12th -- and Boston is one of the stops, so I can only imagine....

It's these television guilty pleasures that make life more enjoyable sometimes.
Wouldn't you agree?

Friday's Final Thoughts....

As I sit here with a glass of Malbec and waiting to make grilled calamari and chopped salad for dinner - I'm completely and entirely exhausted. Today didn't exactly go as planned -- rather than having huge gaps of time between items and errands throughout the day - I was back to back with errands and visitors and appointments. Not a bad thing - but made it so that I wasn't able to do a favor for a friend, which really bummed me out. I don't like not being able to help someone, you know what I mean?

So, my weekend is also jam packed but in a good way and hopefully a relatively relaxing one.

And the store - which will be completed being painted tomorrow looks flipping fantastic. Seriously, I'm loving the color and even more - loving some of the artistry that's going to be done on the walls when the paint is done. So exciting...

What are this girl's thoughts for the day.... well, they are as follows:

1. I did not watch the season opener of Grey's Anatomy. So no spoilers, please. I DVR'd it so I can fast forward through commercials tonight -- I'm already pretty convinced that George is going to die, so that's not going to be a huge shocker - but I do miss my friends at Seattle Grace and hope that there's more to the debut than that.

2. I did however, watch "The Changeling". I have developed a whole new appreciation for the talent of Angelina Jolie. It was quite refreshing to see her in a role that showed her as a vulnerable character rather than a tough, action figure one. I'm really just about all set with her being a brooding, dark, sexy, tough girl. It's a little played out, just sayin'...

The movie was done very tastefully as well, since it didn't focus on the gruesome aspect of the crimes - and more on her and what changes she was responsible for in LA during that time as a result of losing her son.

3. How much fun was Sean Casey up in the booth with Don Orsillo? Seriously, I think they should have him on all the time. I was laughing the whole time - he is so animated and his stories are pretty funny, or maybe it's just his translation of them that's so fun - but I loved it. Funny sidenote to that -- which I mentioned here before -- is that my son sat next to him at a WWE event last year. Speaking of which, my son will be attending once again next week - and one only knows who he will end up sitting next to this time. I'm so sad because I was supposed to go with them this time but my son invited a friend to go, so.... Mommy's out of luck it seems.

4. I miss Jason. Ugh, everyone is all over the Victor Martinez bandwagon. Yeah, yeah.. I know. I don't want to hear it.

5. Busy busy weekend for the girl. We have our first "away" game in travel soccer tomorrow morning, then off to the store to pay the painter. Next up is a family reunion - and fortunately, tomorrow night as far as I know - there are no plans. Sunday, I'm running a 5k in the morning and then we're going for a family dinner and watching the Patriots.

And then we start all over again on Monday.
But that's a big week.
Huge.

Wonderings of Wednesday.....

I worked in the Boston store today - and let me tell you, though we were indoors -- it was great to actually see the sunshine outside through the windows!

1. What a change in the landscape of Boston sports radio. With WBCN now going to an all sports platform, I learned that WEEI is going to be going through all sorts of major changes. We met with a sales rep from WEEI for some pricing on radio spots to promote the new store, and we heard that Felger is leaving the station! I'm sure many more changes will be happening as well, but that sort of surprised me. And -- Mix 98.5 is going to be moving to 104.1, and vice versa. How's that for a change of scenery?

2. Justin Masterson walked by the store today. Funny thing is, he's not super recognizable. He looks very different outside of uniform, as opposed to someone like Paps or Mike Lowell who is noticeable everywhere. I thought that was an interesting observation.

3. Last night we did not watch the All Star Game much. (Shocking, I know...) And truthfully, I'm glad I didn't because I think it's rude that Joe Maddon didn't let Wake throw even one pitch. Seriously, what are the chances of the guy being selected to go again -- it was down right mean actually.

4. We did however, watch an amazing movie. We watched Schindler's List -- which I only saw once when it first came out. We happened to see it was starting and it just lures you in to watch. It's a sad commentary of that time in humanity, but what a fabulous movie. Of course, the ending when you see the actual survivors gets me every time -- but the truth of the matter is, despite the darkness of the subject matter, how often do you see a movie that truly evokes emotion? There have been plenty of movies about the Holocaust and key people involved (Valkyrie being one that had potential to be excellent and was just okay....) that fall rather flat in their delivery and content. But Schindlers List was absolutely outstanding.

5. While yesterday was a little sad and unsettling for me -- today was the exact opposite. Yeah, I got over that pretty quickly. I'm sure it will come and go, but I had a great time at the store - and I've got so much work ahead of me to get ready for the second store -- and still so much to learn, I'm looking forward to the challenge of learning. I've been yearning for the challenge of learning so working is actually fun for me.

I'm a crazy girl, I know....

Oops, she did it again! Sort of anyway...

So here's what I want to know. Is stupidity genetic? Are we inherently destined to make poor decisions in life based upon our DNA? Or, can it be obtained through osmosis? Just by being in close proximity to others who aren't that bright? Or rather, is it an acquired, learned behaviour. Tolerated and nurtured because one is a "celebrity" of some sort.

How disturbing is it to find out that Jamie Lynn Spears is 16 years old, and about to become a mother. What I find rather comical, is that instead of having pictures of her floating around with these articles, you're more inclined to find photos of her sister, Ms. Britney. Birds of a feather clearly flock together. One would think that Jamie would see the disarray that her sister is in and think to herself "hmm. That's so not the direction I want to end up in".

Here's the thing. Teenage pregnancies have been going on for years, and it is not - or rather should not -- be a reflection on parenting, upbringing or perceived as anything other than what it is - and that is an age old issue of children growing up too quickly and being involved with relationships when they are too young to be responsible about it. So, I'm here to say that I am not passing judgement on anyone else. I know plenty of wonderful people who were born when they're mothers were probably too young to have had them in retrospect. I'm talking only about the family at hand -- the Spears family in particular. I'm thinking that there may be a little bit more of a judgemental perspective here. Is it that everyone was so wrapped around Britney that they figured they could let Jamie Lynn do whatever she wanted? I'm sorry, but isn't there this issue floating around now with regards to professional athletes as well -- being thrust into money and fame so quickly and so young, with little or no mentorship?? Doesn't the same thing apply to actors/actresses and the like? I mean, don't 16 year olds still require adult supervision? I know that kids have ample time to do things and fool around and all that, but truthfully - I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I'm sure Jamie Lynn Spears didn't have curfews and other rules to follow that a 16 year old probably should have.

Let's look at another celebrity family. We can all laugh and poke jokes at Jessica Simpson's father -- but truth be told, it seems to me that he and his wife kept their family together despite the fame and fortune that his daughters found at young ages. Maybe that's why he was so involved in Jessica's life. Sure, we can say that he was too involved and what not, and that she's spoiled and not the brightest bulb in the box sometimes -- but maybe the joke is on everyone else instead. Because while he was and is so involved, despite the normal dating type issues that Jessica's going through under the scrutiny of a microscope -- his kids are actually doing okay and seem relatively normal and grounded.

So now, what do all of these teen magazines do now? Do they not feature her anymore? I would tend to think that pregnant at 16 is not something that should be perceived as glamourized, and should not be condoned merely because she's a quasi-celebrity. At the same time, to drop her might be considered discrimination to some. So what's the media to do? Will they lead the confused little flock of young teenage girls into thinking that it's okay to be pregnant at 16 by showing the latest in maternity fashions on one who is clearly still a baby herself?

The scary thing is, I think they will. What is the alternative? Is there a happy medium for the portrayal of this situation?

Music. Television. Sports.

September is overwhelming on an entertainment level at the moment.

So many great television shows debuting and premiering; some great music has been released this month that I'm trying like crazy to get my hands on.

And then of course, there's baseball and football.

What's a girl to do? So much to choose from, so little time!

Tonight's all eyes on the Sox game, naturally. But this week is still going to be crazy -- between baseball, Private Practice, Grey's Anatomy, and the Contender - just to name a few. Never mind that I'm still playing catch up on "Rescue Me" via DVR. Oh, and Dexter is starting next week on Showtime. I re-watched the finale last night so that I can be all caught up for the season premiere. I
love intelligent television. (Which reminds me, last night I watched the latest Bill Mahr on HBO, and whether you love him or hate him, his monologues at the end are always so very good.)

Boy, am I lucky that Noggin and PBS Sprout doesn't debut new shows this regularly.

Politics, sports, intelligent drama and of course - a little McDreamy fluff in between.

Tell me, does it get much better than that?

Babel? How about Babble!

Little recommendation for you. Don't rent this if at all possible. While it was interesting at times to think of how the movie was going....it was such a disappointment overall. What does Babel mean? Why were Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett angry with each other? What did the Japanese girl really have to do with anything? And why did it end at the point before it started? These are just some of the issues I had. If anyone has seen it and really liked it - please feel free to enlighten me because clearly I missed the point on this one.
