The aftermath....

So, of course it's almost impossible to have the television on and not hear about Caylee Anthony.

What disturbs me most is that the jury completely disregarded all the evidence and clearly had their minds made up prior to deliberation. One alternate juror even came out and said that he knows something happened to Caylee and that they chose not to convict because "the family is dysfunctional and knows more than they're letting on.".

1. What family isn't dysfunctional at some level?
and 2. Of course they KNEW Casey did it....we ALL know it -- its just none of us can know exactly what happened. Of course her parents knew - they did all that they could to get it out of her. They cried, they begged, they bribed, they threatened. But they didn't cover it up for her -and for the jury to NOT convict based strictly on the fact that they feel the family is involved when there is zero evidence to point to that - is a complete and total miscarriage of justice. That is not bravery from the jury -- it's laziness.

There will be no justice for Caylee, I don't see how. And it's absolutely gutwrenching.

A friend of mine sent the following to me. She saw it on Facebook today and doesn't know if the person wrote it themselves or copied & pasted it. But either way - it's worth sharing.

"Dear Mommy,
I see you smile down there below, why are those tears of joy you show? I'm glad you're happy, although you lied, I'd still love to be smiling right by your side. Tell my grandparents I send my love. It's beautiful here, that's all I can say. I'm happy your life will go on without me in your way. I'm glad you get to walk free. Just remember sooner or later, there will be justice for me.
Love Caylee ♥♥♥ "

Disgusted. Disturbed. Disheartened. Disbelief....

It is an incredible travesty of justice that Casey Anthony was acquitted today on all charges related to the disappearance and obvious murder of her daughter Caylee.

I watched this trial and I'm sorry - reasonable doubt was not presented; irrational, unexplained and desperate doubts were presented. But reasonable? No, I think not.

This was not a jury of MY peers that acquitted this girl; and if it was a jury of HER peers, then I pity the state of Florida and those who live within it. It speaks volumes about what you can and can not do regarding your children, or other people for that matter.

While I did not believe a Murder One, Death Penalty award was going to be given - I believed for sure that a lesser charge would. And yet this girl has been cleared on everything except for lying to police.

So, clearly in the state of Florida it's okay to have a dead body in your car for weeks on end and then deny that it was ever there - even with DNA evidence. I don't care if there is no cause of death proved because when it comes two a 2 year old child - there doesn't need to be cause because the mere fact that she's dead shows that there is some semblence of unnatural occurance that happened. If it's an accident - then you don't lie about it; and you also don't drag everyone else into it either. If it's an accident - then you state that, and that scenario only. You don't come up with various possibilities. Two year olds don't die of natural causes; so whether it's shooting, neckbreaking, or chloroform poisioning - is irrelevant. The fact you have a dead body that no one other than the Mother has access to - speaks volumes. And with DNA in the car, multiple lies and basically NO information other than misinformation with intent to mislead -- who else do you look to.

This is a very sad day in the justice system; a very sad day for the Anthony family who I think is disgusted that Caylee has received no justice -- and a very sad day for this girl, who was so emotionally invested into this case. I don't know how the State of Florida couldn't have slammed this case shut -- but I'm so very dissapointed that they weren't able to make any of the charges on the table stick. There was NO justice for this beautiful little girl.

It's shocking, and sad. And it's going to take quite a long time for me to get over this case....

Cautious optomism....

So, while I'm too tired at this moment to go into details -- it appears that the house we love, love, love is going to work out after all.

I have in my hot little hands -- a Purchase & Sale agreement.

No transplanting the kids to a new school system and new friends! We move literally around the corner from where we are now....a great neighborhood, (other kids in the area -- priceless!!!)fenced backyard, an inground pool -- and G is beyond excited about the big ol' pond in the backyard to go paddleboating or kayaking in. Plus, he can't wait to stake out a spot to put a koi pond in. Fun, right?

It's been a long road. And not exactly a smooth one.
But if all goes well, by the end of July it will be all over.

I hate to bitch, really I do....

It has not been a good run of events at le new wine boutique.
*sigh*

What's today's drama, you ask?
Well, I'll tell you.

Today should've been the light at the end of the tunnel for us -- paint should've been done and the racks would be in on Wednesday, product coming in by Friday. And yet.....

While my countertop is there (and looks great!) and while the ceiling looks absolutely gorgeous (Benjamin Moore Dark Basalt -- Google it, it's a fabulous eggplant color!), the paint is not completed. Because this incredibly over budgeted buildout did not have the contractor plaster the walls and soffits properly. Therefore, the painter won't continue the job because he can't really -- it looks like horse hair plaster and this is new construction! So, at our contractor's expense - we've hired a plasterer of our own choice -- to at minimum, try to fix what's there.

Did I mention that our original painter quit, just never showed up to the job site? Right......

On my birthday no less. Yes, imagine the fun of spending the day in the midst of arguements and stress and despair. Ah, but these are the pains of building a new store.

Everything happens for a reason because that wasn't a painter of our choice - he just came with the contractor's package. The painter we brought on is really, really great. Super nice guy and absolutely someone I'd recommend highly to anyone. Fantastic work. Like I said, the ceiling which he sprayed -- gorgeous. And he has ethic in his work, something that's hard to find in the painting trade. Anyway.....

Tomorrow's a new day. The racks will be postponed yet another week. But the plaster will be repaired and the paint will be re-primed and applied and we will get this done.

(Did I mention that Princess Petunia and I both happened to get a touch of food poisoning last night? Yes, fortunately I had it far worse than she did - far worse - but still. Isn't this just fun???)

You had a bad day....you had a bad day.

Yup. That would be this girl.

(First off, let me preface this post by stating that I'm writing this from inside the new shop. Yesterday Verizon came in and set up FIOS for TV/internet and phone; everything was tested except for internet so I brought my laptop with me to test it before I go home today, and it is Suh-weet. Uber fast.)

So this a.m. -- first thing, trying to get out the door - my battery is dead. Seems that one of my darling kiddies didn't shut their door all the way (Princess Petunia, not to name names....) and since I hadn't used my vehicle since Saturday afternoon - I didn't realize this until, well.... you guessed it - after G left for work. So, being resourceful (and not having AAA), I called a tow company who came down and charged my truck for me. My sitter was nice enough to loan me her car during the wait so I could meet my 9am interview this morning.

If that wasn't a chaotic enough start, I called my girlfriend to see if she wanted to meet me for a quick sushi lunch. As I'm pulling into the lot, there's some debris or something in the road which causes a loud "BANG" and I feel like I've hit a horse or something. I pull into the parking lot and look at my tire to see while there isn't a hole per se -- there's a chunk of rubber missing and my rim is hacked up - I truly can't drive on it any longer. Fortunately there's a Midas right next store so I stop in and figure I'll have the tire replaced while I eat. Mmmmm, yeah. Not happening - they don't carry Michelin tires. So, I figure - okay, I'll buy a new one at the place he recommends one town over. But before I leave, I ask him to put on my spare - and save us a few bucks for now; yeah, that's not happening either. The spare - is flat. (Feel like yelling out "WTF"? God knows I did.)

So, off I went and got a new tire - $250 later.
*sighs.*

Tonight we have our planning board meeting and seriously, it has got to go far better than the day has so far.

It's that theory of "three's" again.

I'm looking for a little clarity and definition and just when I think it's going to happen....more possibilities arrive on the horizon.

You know the old addage of "things always come in threes"...?

In a span of 5 hours yesterday:

1. The liquor license that's being negotiated has made a little headway. Still ugly, messy and in litigation -but moving forwards.

2. A retail space in the next town over that already has a built in freezer and cooler (though not a shop previously) is available in a beautiful location. Oh, and by the way -- ample liquor licenses available and the space is ready to go. So I've made an appointment to go look at it this afternoon after work. Because truly, I can't wait any longer on this lack of direction with regards to business. And I can build a shop there, the clientele would be there -- and I think it would be tres successful.

3. Just on a whim - I called on a fine wine shop that was advertised as being on the "north shore". Vague enough, right? Because I'm very specific about where I want to be, so this could've been anywhere from Gloucester to where I live. Well, come to find out -- it's that shop that we were supposed to pass papers on this past January! So...now they're with a broker, which is lousy - but still - the offer is being submitted in about an hour because one never knows. I believe that they have another offer on the table but the realtor has let us to believe that they're not sure how serious it is. So in the ring the hat is thrown....

Again -- opportunites abound....but still no lack of clarity for direction. I just want to focus on one thing, you know?

They also say "three times is a charm". And this would be our third dealing with the already existing shop.

So I'm really hoping that this is a sign that "three" is a good luck charm.

Sometimes, the best laid plans....

It was a rather crazy Saturday.

I was supposed to have dance in the morning -- a baby shower at noon -- and then a surprise birthday party at 6. I had the dance, but wasn't able to attend the baby shower due to sitter issues at the last minute; which meant I had to get the gift to the shower. That all worked out well, though I really missed out on seeing all the "aunties" -- most especially the "auntie" who is the soon-to-be "Mommy". The only upside to that, was being able to spend the whole day with my own kids -- which ended up being a really fun time considering it was spur of the moment. We went pumpkin picking with one of my son's best friends, and his Mom and sister, who's only a few months younger than my daughter. So that ended up being a nice afternoon....

However, we had a birthday party to go to - and had to be in Medford by 6. No problem, I figure -- put the kids in the tub at 3:30, give them a half hour to play - get them ready and have myself in the shower by 4:30 to be out the door for 5:30. Well, it wasn't until I had the kids in the tub that I realized the water wasn't getting any warmer. It was ice cold! So, I go to check the pilot on the hot water heater - and sure enough it's out. So, I try relighting it....and it won't light. So I call my plumber in a panic and say "get someone out here now please". It's a new hot water heater! This shouldn't be happening - and I'm not an idiot. I know how to start the heater. So, I call my girlfriend Nancy in a panic -- and ask if i can shower there. The kids, well - they pretended it was a pool, so we kept the bath going. But not only was I not going to take a cold shower - I couldnt' even just wash up. I ran that afternoon, and had sort of planned around my afternoon shower, once I realized I wasn't going to the baby shower. So my plumber gets there - and guess what. He can't light it either. Now, I feel a mix of vindication -- and irritation. It's 4:45, and I can't get into the shower at my girlfriends house until I know what's going on at my own, right?

Finally - he gets it lit. At 5:10. It's a coupling or something like that which was broken and he replaced it. I get the kids in the SUV -- and we're off. I hurredly impose on my girlfriend (who didn't mention she needed to be out the door herself by 6!!) and take over her guest bathroom while she keeps my kiddies happily occupied. I'm in the shower by 5:25 - and we're out her door at 5:55. While we don't make Medford for 6 - we do make it for 6:20 - and the guest of honor didn't arrive until 6:30 -- which means alls well that ends well. And that I clearly owe my girlfriend. HUGE.

But it's amazing how the best laid plans will often all go astray all day it seems.
And clearly, my bad karma for the day made it's way over to Fenway.
Sorry guys....

And for a little Patriots Round up for Monday.... probably the best challenge thus far this season, and if Dallas was more disiciplined - it might've been ever harder. Bring on Indy is what I say!
Bring. It. On.
